Pear Sauce

Pear sauce is great when needing a mild flavored sauce to mix with other flavors.   You can add various spices to suit your taste.  Some spices you might like are Ginger, Cinnamon or Star Anise.

Ingredients Needed:

Pears
Sugar

Canning items needed:
Water Bath Canner
Food Mill
Jars, lids, rings, funnel, jar lifter, pots, towels...ect..




  1. Wash your fruit in cool water with a splash of white vinegar added to it.
  2. Quarter and cook the pears until tender.
  3. Put cooked pears through a food mill to make your sauce.
  4. Add sugar to suit your own taste and any spices you like or none at all.
  5. Heat the sauce until simmering (185-210 F).
  6. Pack sauce into jars leaving 1/2 inch head-space.
  7. Remove air bubbles and adjust head-space as needed by adding more sauce.
  8. Process in a boiling water bath.  Pints 15 minutes and Quarts 20 minutes.
  9. When time is up, turn off heat and remove lid from canner.
  10. Wait 5 minutes and remove jars from canner.  Place on a towel to cool for 24 hours.
  11. Label and Store in a cool, dark place.
